Program for Young Men Aims to Turn Everyday Decisions into Success
OAKLAND (May 19, 2009) --- If ever there was a time for positive role models, now would be it. More than ever, leaders and the community are realizing the need for strong programs that identify and assist with the needs of the youth, especially young men. At the response to this need, the Options Academy, Inc. will begin offering programs to young men between the ages 9 – 18 on Tuesday, May 19 from 3:30 – 7: 00 pm at the Family Resource House of Unity located at 7200 Bancroft Blvd., Suite 230 in Oakland.
Founded by Charles M. Lovelace, the Academy’s program includes workshops on various subjects such as: Financial Literacy, Manhood, Respect for Females, Education, Grooming and Entrepreneurship. All with the goal of providing key tools and resources that will allow the young men to make the right choices and grow into successful leaders. Lovelace states “We want the Options Academy to be a one stop program for helping deliver our young men from dependence to independence.”
The Academy will meet each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for four months at a time. In addition to the weekly workshops, the young men will have the opportunity to participate in various education and cultural outings. At the end of each four month session, the Academy will host a special Rites of Passage and commencement ceremony.
The cost of registration is $195 which includes a special session book, t-shirt and hat. Additional fees may be assessed for events and activities. Registration is still open for the current session.
